Siem Reap, Cambodia, December 2006..Kom Yeng, who shows signs of mental unbalance, lives in very precarious conditions among dozens of TB patients in insalubrious barracks at the back of the Provincial Hospital compound. TB is endemic in the region, fueled by poverty, malnutrition, inadequate hygiene and the spreading of HIV/AIDS. The percentage of drug-resistant TB strains is on a sharp rise due to inadequate treatments.
