

Huambo, Angola, May, 24, 2006.Magolino Makina, 16, suffers from accute TB as well as severe thyroid gland swelling caused by lack of iodine. More than 300 TB patients live in Huambo State Sanatorium, hundreds more are outside patients. TB is endemic in the region, fueled by poverty, malnutrition, inadequate hygiene and the rapid spreading of HIV/AIDS since the end of the civil war in 2002.
