Sahara desert, Libya-Chad, November/December 2004..Every week, a convoy of 40 privately owned Libyan trucks loaded by the WFP with about 1000 metric tons of western food aid cross 2500 km of deep desert across Libya and Chad to reach more than 200 000 refugees from Darfur in camps near the Sudanese border. The convoy must carry all its food and supply for up to a month in the deep desert so each truck has a couple of goats or sheep 'passengers' on top of its load...they provide meat for about 3 days...
