Hamadiyah, Iraq, May 26, 2003.Several mass graves containing bodies of thousands of Kurds captured and deported in 1988 during "operation Amfal" are beginning to be discovered in the desert between Kerbala and Nedjaf, they all contain civilians, including some women and children. .Unfortunately, the diggings are often executed without proper methodology which leads to the destruction of evidence against the perpetrators but perhaps more crucialy prevents accurate identifications of the remains.
