Near Nedjaf, Iraq, May 27, 2003.Two women try to identify the remains of family members who disappeared in 1991 during the Shia'i intifada following the Gulf War. Many mass graves litter the desert around Nedjaf and Kerbala. Unfortunately, the diggings are often executed without proper methodology which leads to the destruction of evidence against the perpetrators but perhaps more crucialy prevents accurate identifications of the remains.
