Near Nedjaf, Iraq, May 26, 2003.According to local sources, more than a hundred and forty mass graves are located in the desert around the city of Nedjaf; most of the recovered bodies appear to be of civilians, including some women and children. .Unfortunately, the diggings are often executed without proper methodology which leads to the destruction of evidence against the perpetrators but perhaps more crucialy prevents accurate identifications of the remains.
